Storage
Whenever possible, store indoors for the winter, or use a protective fitted cover. All furniture, frames and cushions must be completely dry before they are stored or covered. Always store your furniture and table right side up and leave the table base attached. Keeping your furniture covered when not in use during the summer season will help maintain its beauty and cut back on the frequency of cleaning. Use special care when storing or moving glass tabletops. Protect and secure when high winds are predicted or present. Glass is not covered by any warranty unless a manufacturer's defect is obvious. * When preparing for winter storage, check all frames for trapped water and drain if necessary by removing foot or rail caps and positioning chair appropriately for drainage. Trapped water will freeze and expand causing frames to crack and distort. * Extreme caution should also be taken with your umbrella. Always close when not in use or when high winds are predicted or present. Leaving an umbrella open in the wind voids the warranty. Maintenance Periodic cleaning of frames, straps, slings, cushions and all weather wicker is required. Treat your furniture as you would your car, keeping it as clean as possible, and your furniture will last a long time. Here are some basic cleaning and maintenance tips: 1. Frames & Straps Extruded Aluminum, Cast Aluminum, Wrought Iron, Resin, Fiberglass, PVC etc., should be cleaned regularly with one of Treasure Island's outdoor furniture cleaners or mild soap and water, and waxed with an outdoor furniture spray wax at least twice a year. Vinyl straps should also be waxed. (Furniture should be clean before waxing.) Automotive paste and wax is not recommended for use on textured finishes or straps. Wrought Iron can rust, so touch up chips or scratches immediately (before waxing). 2. Cushions, Umbrellas & Slings Textilene and Sunstyle should be cleaned with outdoor furniture fabric cleaner. Dralon, Polyester, Olefin, Elbertex and Sunbrella Acrylic should be cleaned with a mild soap and water solution. All cushions should be rinsed thoroughly, then stood on their sides to drain dry. Cotton should be vacuumed regularly, then wiped clean with a mild soap and water solution. Scotch-gard after cleaning. DO NOT sun dry cotton. Clean vinyl umbrellas with a vinyl cleaner and protectant. 3. Wood Some of the natural characteristics of wood are to gray, crack, split, splinter, shrink and swell. Check hardware regularly and tighten. Teak To treat new or restored furniture use Teak Sealer twice a year. Use Teak Cleaner twice a year to remove all dirt, grease and moisture from the wood. Use Teak Brightner to restore surface color of the Tiber. Apply Teak Sealer to help prevent the wood from graying. Treat furniture being used indoors with Teak Oil. Jarrah The original color of the wood can be maintained with regular use of Jarrah Color Guard Plus. Fully exposed furniture should be coated twice a year or more depending on climate. To return Jarrah wood to the original color; completely clean the surface of the wood and let dry. Sand the wood with 120 grit-sand paper until new wood is exposed and treat with Jarrah Color Guard. 4. Table Tops Use a fiberglass cleaner on Fiberglass and Werzalit tops, then wax. Glass should be cleaned with a household glass cleaner. 5. Tubular Aluminum "Weep Holes" are small holes placed strategically in the underside of various areas on a frame (e.g., under arms) to allow moisture to escape. Periodically check these holes and make sure they are clear (see also `When preparing for winter storage' in the storage section). |
